Gustavo Avila-Ortiz and Will Giannobile, has been charged with developing a scientific strategic plan to guide the Academy through 2026. In their initial discussions, the Task Force has identified top priorities: Provide practical clinical translation of scienceBecome global leaders in periodontal science Engage new and young cliniciansCollaborate with national and international groups Increase diversity within the profession As they continue their work, they will further discuss and identify ways to align periodontics with current and future trends and innovation in medicine, science, and research. Coming Soon: A new disease classification videoThe newest disease classification resource, a digital video that explains the staging and grading system for periodontitis, will be available for members later this fall. This five-minute video brings the staging and grading system to life with dynamic graphics and animation that explains how to stage and grade a periodontitis patient in three easy steps. AAP members are encouraged to share the video with their general practitioner and dental hygiene colleagues.
