Mellonig passed away on November 16.Gold Medal in 1999 and its inaugural Outstanding Educator Award in 2003. He was a guest lecturer at various universities and conferences Dr. Mellonig earned his dental degreethroughout the world. Dr. Mellonigs research areas of interest included from Marquette University Dental Schoolperiodontal regeneration, bone allografts, bone inductive proteins, and completed his periodontal training atendosseous dental implants, and guided tissue regeneration.the Naval Dental Postgraduate School in Bethesda, MD in 1974. He served withIn 2016 the first Dr. James T. Mellonig Regeneration Research Award the Navys Medical Research Institutewas given to recognize excellence in original research by a resident among other tours of duty, and became thein the specialty of periodontics that advances clinical therapies in Director of the Navys Advanced Educationalperiodontal regeneration.
