b'and utilize state funding in that way, and that is what she is focusing on today as well. Part of Texas Mission of Mercys mission and her personal mission is to give time to the cause, so they are not burdening the system. On her international mission trip to Poland, Dr. Ganter saw women, children, and disabled people who have been torn from their families due to war. She witnessed refugees in conference centers which were made into shelters overnight with wood boards placed around and everything out in the open with no privacy for the refugees. Some of these shelters had 800 Ukrainian citizens that are chronically ill, young women with small children, elderly, or disabled Ukrainian citizens. If they stay at these shelters for three months, they must figure out how to pay 50 percent of the cost of living just to stay in the shelter. Dr. Ganter shared, They see us, and they start crying and we havent even said anything. They are so appreciative of Americans helping them. She informs how even just talking with her community in the Dallas area about these mission trips makes a difference because people are so willing to help and contribute to making a difference in any way they can. Even if people cant give their money, they can give their time. Promoting what they are doing on these mission trips makes a difference and she also talks about the power of arts and crafts. She says, Arts and crafts are what made these shelters bright and human again, as they can be so desolate. Its all about morale. The morale gets very low if people arent smiling because of something. The Ukrainian refugees in these shelters are given food tickets and get dessert once a week. Dr. Ganter shared the story of a Ukrainian girl she did a full mouth extraction case on who came back to her and gave her the only chocolate bar she had for that week. Although Dr Ganter refused, the girl insisted because she didnt feel settled unless Dr. Ganter took the chocolate bar. By going on these mission trips, Dr. Ganter says you truly realize the impact you have. Not only that, but she comes back with more perspective. A wonderful point Dr. Ganter makes is, Our emotions make us human. On top of all of that, Dr. Ganter also makes time to distribute her knowledge and experiences to a digital audience with Dr. Robert McNeill, or Bobby. They both co-host a podcast on YouTube called Between Two Teeth. When starting this podcast, they thought about the patient experience and wanted to start the podcast to help the providers because, in Dr. Ganters words, a healthy provider is somebody thats going to give the patient their best. Healthy and happy providers improve patient care. AAP Periospectives| 7'
